I have only had it a couple of weeks and the ink has almost run out. I am an occasional user turning the machine on and off when I need a print, mostly for text.
So even if you don't print much you will be replacing the ink soon. All the noises that it makes on startup I can only presume are cleaning routines for the print heads.
Canon have outdone themselves in diservice to their customers here. The color tanks are 60% empty.
As the ink replacements are half the cost of the printer I have no doubt that this model will be stoking the landfills in abundance.Good print quality.MEAN, shame on Canon. I have been a loyal fan for some years but after my i860 died I replaced it with the ip4600.
The ink tanks are sooooo small.I have printed 1 A4 photo and 2 postcards.
I also did not need a wireless printer as I had just one desktop computer, and did not want to invest the money in a wireless system at this time. Standard paper feeds from a tray under the printer, while photo quality paper feeds from a tray on the top rear of the printer.
Ink quality on all printing jobs has been excellent. Either paper tray can automatically be selected by software before printing.
My old Canon Printer had failed, and I needed a replacement. Set-up was very easy, and the printer installed and worked perfectly.
Overall, this is one of the best printers I have ever used. I did notneed an all-in-one printer as I already had a good Canon Scanner.
For the money, the iP4600 printer turned out to be a great buy.
They explain everything & are very helpful. Also take a look at inkjethelper dot com (you get the idea) Google it if nothing else. My 33, ip4200 & my son's ip4700 or some such have been done & now print disks just fine. Just search eBay for the buy that sells the adapters so your printer can print disks. It is cheap & VERY EASY.
I haven't tried to use any other photo paper other than what's recommended bc of other reviews I've read, but I don't want to bc these pictures come out store quality. It's pretty fast and the inkjet looks great too. First of all I'd like to say I LOVE the sleek design. I scrapbook so it's nice to print pictures as you need them instead of waiting for them to develop at a store. Overall, I love it. The glossy black matches my bluray player & HD tv, so that's a plus. On to the actual printing.
This has proved to be the worst printer I have ever had, and have had nothing but problems since day 1. So dont bother trying to print multiple copys of a page unless you plan to spend the excess time loading the sheets of paper in individually. Decided to buy this Canon ip4600 after reading reviews and its stated speed for printing.
It tells you for printing documents to load the paper into the bottom tray, but it constantly jams up and never prints correctly.at times it will print 1 page worth of typing on 3 or 4 different pages wasting a lot of paper. this machine does print quickly when it works, but only after over a minute of loud noises and movements for the printer to "warmup" even if it has only been idle for 3 minutes. It seems the only way I can SOMETIMES get this to print properly is if i sit there and load 1 sheet of paper in at a time, and even then its still printing incorrectly.
My old Canon S-750 broke down after many years of high volume printing at my office. The setup took over 20 min, the ink cartridges are much smaller than the old ones, and much more costly. All in all this printer is a piece of garbage and I would not recoment it to anyone.
Boy did I make a HUGE mistake. First it didnt come with the needed USB cable.
